The Recognition

So take your time

Look round and see

The most in time is where you’re meant to be

The time has come to make a stand on shifting sands.

The first step is recognition, the recognition of malaise beneath the swarming shallows of excitement and misery, anxiety and serenity.  The first step is the recognition…

…the recognition that something is terribly wrong.

The modern condition has served to effectively alienate ourselves from ourselves.  This is barely metaphorical: While the First Recognition is that something is wrong, the First Realization is our bifurcated agency sailing our kaleidoscopic natures.

Is something really wrong?

1.  What adjectives would you choose to describe our connections to our bodies?  Flourishing or feeble?  Active or apathetic?  How deep is our access to our somatic rhythms and tides?  How intimate are we with presence?

2.  What adjectives would you use to describe our mental relationships to the great historical tapestries of the humanities and sciences?  Understanding or uninformed? Insightful or ignorant?  How conversant are we in the vital ideas?  Are inquisitiveness or superficiality the coin of the age?

3.  What adjectives would you use to describe our cultural / social trajectory?  Thoughtful or trifling? Superficial or significant?  Flat or full? Are we living in an epoch of increased fragmentation?  Do we value quantification over context?

4.  Are we estranged from spirit?

The voice inside of you knows the answers to these questions.  It also knows another truth:

This state of being is unnatural but not abnormal.

What to do?  What to do?
